Mother of Peace in Illovo is currently looking for sponsorship for several
projects
that we would like to make happen in 2011/2012. As you can see, we still need your help!
Projects for 2011/2012.
- Education
At the moment our children attend 8 different schools. Some schools are not completely fit for the children, but we cannot afford to send them all to private/better schools. For 2011/2012 our aim is to have all the children attend suitable schools, with proper uniforms and enough stationary to work with and some extra money for extra curricular activities. We also need extra transportation to bring the children to these schools.
- Day Care Centre
Until 2010 the daycare centre at MoP was only available for the children living at Mop itself. In April 2010 we have opened it up for children from the community as well. At the moment we are already looking after 20 children from the surrounding community at our day care centre.To extend these services we need extra staff (4 day care teachers and an administrator) and an extra van to transport the children to and from the community. We also need money to refurbish another classroom and to provide all children with a warm meal.
- Teenage Cottage / Halfway House
Some of our children come to an age where they have to stand on their own. They have finished their basic education and are entering the job market or want to go attend college. To help them set the first steps to independency we would like to establish a halfway house at MoP. For this we need staff (caregiver) and money to cover the running and transportation costs and extra activities.
- Workshop
MoP does most of her building and maintenance herself. What we really need however is a workshop so we can make our own cupboards and furniture.
- New houses to house 6 children and 1 house mother per house
MoP currently has 10 houses that have been upgraded to house 6 children and a house mother per house. Every day we have to turn down children in need because we do not have enough room for them. This is heartbreaking and unnecessary since we do have enough space, but the houses we have need thorough renovation before they are fit to host children and a house mother. In order to meet our objective of taking in 60 more children a further 10 houses would need to be renovated. Besides tremendous costs for labor and building materials, we also need money to decorate and furnish the houses.
